Today at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas history will be made once again as Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalov will square off as the main event LIVE on HBO PPV.
Including the one and only 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist for boxing, Claressa "T-Rex" Shields, will make her pro boxing debut against her former teammate Franchon "The Heavy Hitting Diva" Crews in the preliminary undercards in a 4-round super middleweight bout.
Coming from an impressive (77-1) amateur career experience shows as she starting boxing from a young age. It all really started when Shields won her first Olympic gold medal at 17 in London 2012, which was the first year the Olympics were handing out medals to women in boxing, and of course, Claressa Shields was there.
Four years later she returned to Rio in 2016 and struck gold YET again for USA women's boxing.
This made her the first American EVER.. male and female.. to win back-to-back gold in the Olympics. It was a grand achievement at such a young age and started catching the eye of fans back to women's boxing.
She is a clear inspiration to a lot of people out there and not just females. Andre Ward himself loves what she is going for the sport.
After her match against Crews, it will be interesting to see how she handles the new pressure of turning pro, especially if she ends up taking the win tonight. She is in Vegas getting ready to represent her hometown of Flint, Michigan.
Claressa is ready to prove that you can come from nothing and have everything else to gain.
Tune in at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT and watch the live stream of her fight HERE or if you have cable turn the channel to ESPN 3.
