Esha Knows Stuff

just a  little bit of everything

DID YOU KNOW, there was an all-black army of women called the Dahomey Amazons in West Africa?

One named, Adbarya Toya was taken into slavery & the warriors wanted the last word against the French which led to the Haitian Revolution.

Adbarya Toya was renamed Victoria Montou by her owner. She trained her future nephew, Jean-Jaques Dessabtinesm in combat & weaponry. She led them to fight in what is known to be the only successful slave rebellion that created a form of state in the 1805 constitution.

Jean-Jaques Dessabtinesm, a former Haitian slave to the Emperor of Haiti, impressively proclaimed his country's independence.

Adbarya Toya died one year later.

Damoney Warrior, Seh-Dong-Hong-Beh, led 6000 Warriors to war. Nawi, the last standing, was alive long enough to tell her story. A movie called "The Woman King" is currently being filmed starring Lupita, as Nawi.

Even her Warrior Mother, Nanisca, will be played by Viola Davis.

The Dora Milaje in the Black Panthers were depicting the Dahomey Amazons when the story grew more popular.
